Fulton Bake-off, Saturday June 23rd!
Wash your hands, pull out your aprons, and whip up your best to compete in the first annual Fulton Farmers Market Bake-off! The bake-off will be held on June 23rd, there are lots of ingredients at the market that are great for baking with, so come take a look around on Saturday, June 9th and Saturday June 16th to purchase ingredients!
Read below, then fill out a registration form to participate. Proceeds from the sale of your goodies at the bake-off events benefit the Kingfield Farmers Market, a 501(c)4 non-profit and a great community asset. Good Luck!
THE RULES:
Your entry must be baked (so as tasty as they might be, no salsas, sauces, soups, etc).
Your entry must be stable at ambient temperatures. This means NO whipped cream, cheesecakes, cream puffs, etc. Any entry that needs to be kept cool or hot to be safe and servable will not be allowed. If you have specific questions about the suitability of your entry idea, you may send them to info@neighborhoodrootsmn.org.
Your entry must be at the market by 10am on the day of the bake-off so we’ll be all ready to go by 10:30am.
The entry must be big enough to provide 60 bite-sized servings (we can cut them!).
Submit submitted along with a complete list of the ingredients you have used.
free of identifying marks/tags/etc that might allow patrons and judges to connect you to your entry. (The market will provide a means to keep track of your entry on Bake-off Day.)

The Lowbrow is hosting a dine out to support the Kingfield Market! Gather at the restaurant on Monday, June 25th anytime between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm to enjoy tasty comfort food. Everything tastes better when you know your evening out is for a good cause!
We're hiring!
We are currently accepting applications for our Assistant Market Manager position. This is a part-time position from May through October of 2018. This is an excellent opportunity to spend time outside, meet new people and gain nonprofit management experience. We will begin reviewing applications April 16th.
The Assistant Market Manager assists with the day-to-day operations of the Neighborhood Roots farmers markets in order to serve its vendors, patrons, volunteers and sponsors. Neighborhood Roots oversees 3 community-based markets: Kingfield, Fulton and Nokomis. This is a seasonal, part-time position with an average of 22 – 30 total available hours per week during the market season. The number of hours is closest to 30 hours per week from mid-June to September.
Working hours include time before, during, and after the hours the markets are open to the public, as well as additional administrative time during the week. Saturday & Sunday availability (6:45am – 2:30pm) and Wednesday availability (2:30pm – 9:15pm) are required. Duties will consist of approximately 70% market-site staffing and 30% market administrative tasks. This position is compensated at $12.50 per hour.
Essential Functions:
Oversee activities at the market information booth during market hours including: offering high quality customer service and conducting SNAP-EBT, credit card, & merchandise sales
Assist in physical market set-up and tear-down
Provide on-site support to all vendors, patrons, musicians, artists, master gardener volunteers, and other community activity providers as needed
Perform accounting related to the EBT / credit card token system used at the markets and affiliated mini-markets. Assist with related paperwork and tracking
Support preparation and execution of special and weekly events including but not limited to demos, music, and family-friendly activities
Assist with market-day supervision of volunteers
Create weekly e-newsletters, assist with the maintenance of other social media channels
Ensure market supplies are kept well-stocked and organized
Other reasonable duties as assigned to support the Market Director, Market Manager, and general market operations
Required Qualifications:
Strong ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced setting
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships and provide high quality customer service
Must be highly organized and detail-oriented
Aptitude with numbers and basic counting, math skills
Strong problem solving ability
Able to accomplish tasks with limited direct supervision
Able to effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Must be able to routinely lift up to 50lbs
Flexible schedule must include Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during the market season (staff may take up to two weeks off during the market season)
Preferred Qualifications
Cash-handling experience
Interest in sustainable agriculture, food justice and local food policy
Experience working with volunteers

March 24th Winter Farmers Market!
Spring is just around the corner! Before new veggies start popping out of the ground, enjoy one last indoor Neighborhood Roots Winter Farmers Market. Collect your grocery bags, bring your shopping lists and gather in the greenhouse of Bachman’s Garden Center (6010 Lyndale Ave. S) on March 24th from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. Vendors will be bringing stored veggies and apples, greenhouse greens, preserves, farmstead cheeses, pasture raised meats, fermented and pickled vegetables, honey, maple syrup and much more.
Live music will accompany your shopping trip! Broken Heartland String Band will be playing from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and One Ukulele is playing from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Beer from Able Seedhouse + Brewing and wine from South Lyndale Liquors will be available for sale by the glass. Relax and enjoy! All proceeds from beer and wine sales go to support the Fulton, Kingfield and Nokomis Farmers Markets.

Applications for the 2018 Outdoor Farmers Market Season Now Open!
Are you or someone you know interested in becoming a vendor at the Fulton, Kingfield or Nokomis Farmers Markets? Applications for the 2018 outdoor season can be found at managemymarket.com. Create a vendor account on the site and then find the applications for the Fulton, Kingfield and Nokomis Markets by searching the zip code 55409. If you are having difficulties with the application process please refer to this tutorial.
All applicants must submit a $25 non-refundable application fee at the time of their application. Please note- only one $25 fee is due regardless of whether you apply to 1, 2 or all 3 Neighborhood Roots farmers markets (Fulton, Kingfield, Nokomis). Checks can be made out to Neighborhood Roots and sent to our office at: 3754 Pleasant Ave. S, Ste 210, Minneapolis, MN 55409. The market application period for the 2018 outdoor season opens on January 5th and closes on Feb. 18th. Purchase pasture raised lamb, beef, chicken or pork from one of several hard working farmers and impress your guests with the amazing taste of local meat! Start the meal with fresh and aged farmstead cheeses. Make side dishes from local, cold-hearty produce like onions, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, winter squash, beets, apples, garlic, and carrots. Purchase bread and pies from local bakers and pop them in the freezer until your holiday feast.
