Dan Walsh
Have you always been a farmer?
We have been farming since 2007
What’s your favorite or least favorite vegetable?
Favorite-a garden grown tomato
What’s your favorite thing to get from other vendors at the market?
I love whole wheat flour from Uproot Farm, cheery jam from the Davidson’s, Palmira Dark Roast Coffee, ground lamb from Braucher’s Sunshine Harvest, Bacon Slam Jam Pizza from Big River Pizza, honey from Beez-Kneez, raspberry scones from Sun Street, maple-glazed doughuts from Bogart Loves, fresh spinach from Waxwing, currants from Mary Dirty Face, and all the other fresh vegetables from all the other vendors.
What question do people not ask you at the market that you wish they did?
How and why this market was put together (i.e. who organizes it and how the markets are connected with each other).
Do you have a favorite market memory?
Our first day ever at the market. We were at Kingfield in the Fall of 2007. We only had pumpkins to sell and we sold out by noon. We were hooked!
What’s the best advice you’ve gotten about farming?
Many people told us that we should have honey to sell. We took their advice. We are now in our third year of beekeeping.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and why?
The superpower of weed-killing vision. I would just be able to look at the weeds in the field and they would instantly be killed.
What do you do when you’re not doing work for your farm?
I work full-time as an operations manager at a small food distributor in St. Paul. I like to play bridge, cook, read, and spend time with my family.
