Rootenanny concert: Saturday, July 29th!

Join friends, neighbors, and fellow farmers market enthusiasts in the parking lot of Nicollet Ace Hardware on Saturday, July 29th for our 2nd annual Rootenanny concert! Dance the summer night away to tunes from the amazing Afro-Latin band Malamanya, and bluegrass from No Man's String Band. The event runs from 6 - 10pm and features music, beer from Bent Paddle Brewing Co., and family fun.

Purchase tickets ahead of time for $15 (adult) or $5 (kid 12 & under). Adult door price is $18. Tickets are available online here, or in person at the Fulton, Kingfield, & Nokomis Farmers Markets, and at Nicollet Ace Hardware. Proceeds support the farmers markets that you love. Celebrate local food and community with a fun night out and know that your support is essential for the continuation of your neighborhood market!

We are now hiring for our Assistant Market Manager position(s) for the 2017 market season. This updated position description was posted 5/2/17 – applications will be reviewed as soon as they are received and this post will be updated when the position is closed.

We are looking to fill this position with either: 1 person committed to the full position OR 2 people, who are each available for at least 50% of shifts over the course of the season.

An overview: the Assistant Market Manager(s) assists with the day-to-day operations of the Neighborhood Roots farmers markets in order to serve its vendors, patrons, volunteers, sponsors, and affiliated mini-market partners. Neighborhood Roots oversees 3 community-based markets: Fulton, Kingfield, & Nokomis. Fulton and Kingfield are held every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am – 1:00pm, May 20th – October 29th. Nokomis is held on Wednesdays from 4 – 8pm, June 14th – September 27th.

This is a seasonal, part-time position with an average of 22 – 30 total available hours per week during the market season (May – October). The number of hours is closest to 30 hours per week when the Nokomis Market is in season (mid-June – end of September). Working hours include time before, during, and after the hours the markets are open to the public, as well as additional administrative time during the week. Saturday & Sunday availability (6:45am – 2:30pm) and Wednesday availability (2:30pm – 9:15pm) are required. Duties (for the full position) will consist of approximately 70% market-site staffing and 30% market administrative tasks.

March 25th Winter Farmers Market!

Don’t miss out on the last winter farmers market of the season! Gather with friends and neighbors in the greenhouse of Bachman’s Garden Center (6010 Lyndale Ave. S) from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday March 25th to stock up on local foods and enjoy a beautiful Saturday morning at the market!

The market is a little light on produce this time of year, but local farmers still have so much to offer!  Farmstead cheeses, pasture raised meats, eggs, pickles, fermented vegetables, jams, maple syrup, honey and much more.  The outdoor season of the farmers market doesn’t start for two more months so now is the time to stock up!

Beer from Able Seedhouse +Brewing and wine will be available for sale by the glass and live music will accompany your shopping trip.  Enjoy tunes from Steve West and the Northern Stars from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and sing along with One Ukulele from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

January 28th Winter Market!

Come in from the cold and thaw out at the January 28th Winter Farmers Market!  Bring your shopping bags and stock up on the bounty of local produce and products available in Minnesota- even during the coldest time of year!  The market will take place indoors in the greenhouse of Bachman’s Garden Center (6010 Lyndale Ave. S) from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.  Don’t miss out on all the local goodness.

Pasture raised, beef, pork, and chicken will be for sale from three amazing farmers so come prepared to stock your freezer.  Cheese lovers will be thrilled with the variety of dairy creations from three farmstead cheese makers.  In addition, purchase fresh bread, apples, root vegetables, dried beans, jams, fermented veggies, honey, maple syrup, and so much more!

Be sure to bring your appetite.  Farmers market favorites such as bagels, waffles, dumplings and nachos will be available for breakfast or lunch.  Wake up with a coffee made from locally roasted beans or a hand crafted ginger ale.

Keep the morning festive with a beer from Able Seedhouse + Brewery or wine available for sale by the glass.  Live music will accompany your shopping trip, so take your time and enjoy tunes from Broken Heartland String Band from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and The Roe Family Singers from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Holiday Farmers Market Sunday, Nov. 13th!

Believe it or not, the holiday season is just around the corner!  Make it your goal this season to put your holiday dollars right back into the community by buying gifts made by local artisans and cooking with meats, cheeses and vegetables purchased from small, local farmers.  Stop by Bachman’s Garden Center (6010 Lyndale Ave. S) from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 13th to connect with local farmers, chat with neighbors and stock up on local foods and gifts for the chilly months ahead! 

Plenty of produce will still be available at the November Holiday Market! Vendors will have root veggies such as beets, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions and carrots, along with cold hearty cruciferous vegetables like Brussels sprouts, kale, and cabbage.  Several vendors will have apples which can store for up to six months in the fridge, so stock up!

Astound your holiday guests with the amazing local meats and cheeses. Pork, lamb, beef and chicken will all be available along with delectable cheeses made with goat, sheep and cow’s milk.  

If you’re looking for thoughtful gifts for the holidays, there will be plenty of craft vendors at the market along with food vendors carrying non-perishable items.  Jams, honey and maple syrup make great stocking stuffers! Hand knitted items, soap, jewelry, and printed towels are all can’t miss gifts.  

The November market is a fun way kick off to the winter season.  Take the morning slow and enjoy a beer from Eastlake Brewery or a glass of wine while you shop!  Several vendors will have delicious options for breakfast or lunch and live music from the Saint Paul Mudsteppers and Brian Peterson will be keeping the atmosphere festive.
