Jean and Eldon Davidson
Have you always been a farmer?
Eldon and I (Jean) have both retired from other professions. We grew up in Illinois. I grew up on a farm and have always been a farmer in heart. Eldon grew up in a small town but had no desire to farm. He has always supported my farming passion and, although reluctant to admit it, he may actually feel some of the satisfaction from growing plants.
What is your favorite or least favorite vegetable?
Thumbs up for TOMATOES being the most favorite. Eating the heirloom varieties always provide a great experience. Also it is such a joy to snack on a bowlful of sweet cherry tomatoes.
What is your favorite thing to get from other vendors at the market?
The feeling of comradery knowing we all experience success and failures and realize all the hard work that is needed either way. The willingness of other vendors to share their knowledge makes it even more enjoyable.
What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten about farming?
If you love what you do nothing will seem impossible or too overwhelming.
If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
TIME. There are many days we wish we could extend them into an entire week to do everything that we want. Sometime it determines the success of failure of the crops.
What do you do when you are not doing work for your farm?
From February through November we devote all of our efforts to the farm business. During those remaining cold months we enjoy family, friends, try to briefly escape to warmer weather or just “veg” out by the fireplace doing as little as possible.
